5:00am🥱 … Dassa licks my forehead, nudging me to get up and get going. She is my 85 pound chocolate goofy Labradoodle with a white star on her chest. She thinks the star means leading lady of the household, to the chagrin of my wife. I feel my way through the kitchen, click the light switch, and press the button on our Breville drip coffeemaker, brewing some rich, bold Blackout coffee for my wife and I, then a brief pit stop in the rest station.

Note: This is my one-time inaugural Morning Muse post detailing my daily routine two hour walking routine with Hadassah ‘Dassa’ (favorite canine, above 😊). Enjoy!

Entering the garage, I scrape Dassa’s bowl into her food bucket for her breakfast buffet while plucking two and a half Jerky Treats🧇, placing them in my right front pocket, always the same pocket. The reason, minuet pieces of beef linger throughout stuffing charging ports with beef remnants. This happened on three occasions. Therefore, I never ever put my iPhone or air pods in this front pocket. Any other pocket will do.

I stuff my wallet in a back pocket along with two or three poop bags in the other, button remote for our gated community clipped to my left side, and place the leash & collar on our ottoman along with my black Skecher – Go Walk Evolution sneakers. I slide my 20 pound weighted vest over my head, resting on my shoulders secured with the two Velcro straps. After putting on my shoes and socks I snap Dassa’s collar around her fluffy neck.

We scurry out the front door on our way to one of four Starbucks along our various routes. Dassa’s always upfront, my leading lady! By the time we exit the gate, Dassa has picked our route dropping a deuce or two early on leaving me with the duty to grip the deuce lightly, then magically turn the bag outside-in with a knotted top. Voila! Hands, shit free. Man’s best friend and master.

A preferably damp spot of grass is sought, Dassa dropping and rolling as if on fire🔥 scratching her nighttime body itch. Once at Starbucks, I twice wrap her leash around a rail or umbrella base. She lies in wait for her precious 💎 Pupaccino ‘pup-cup’ of whipping cream, compliments of a friendly barista.

It’s the reason we stop there in the first place. Like clockwork, I remove my air pods with a song, podcast, or audiobook lingering in memory, ordering a Grande Honey Citrus Mint tea in colder weather or an iced Passion Fruit drink in summer. I wouldn’t order anything, but I’m squeamish simply ordering a free pup-cup.

Like Norm in the Cheers sitcom of the 80s-90s, everybody seems to know my name when I enter Starbucks. Yet, I’m wise enough to know it’s because of my adorable Labradoodle, not adorable Danny 🤔. Air pods are replaced in my ear and away we go returning home from our two hour jaunt, whipped cream, back scratching, tree branch chewing, and canal swimming adventure.

My dear wife, Annie, has had her cup of java, morning neighborhood stroll, and is on her way to work as an Independent Studies teacher. Unbiased, the best teacher west of the Mississippi ❤️

I scatter the remaining treats from my right pocket on the ottoman for Dassa to nibble, scraping off my socks and shoes, and slipping on a pair of Nuusol Flip Flops specifically designed to ease the tingling in my feet due to planter fasciitis. Man, do they help! I pore a supreme cup of coffee, the first is always the best and Blackout is one of my favorite brands.

Then, restfully, I gladly consume a podcast or two, such as PBD (Patrick Bet David) Podcast, The Rubin Report, The Will Cain Show, The Joe Rogan Experience, Jordan B. Peterson, Verdict, Piers Morgan Uncensored, Lex Friedman, Our Way, The Trey Gowdy Podcast, most recently Diary of a CEO, or one of many other exceptional long form episodes available. Blessed with such entertainment and information at our fingertips.

Then, I eat an early protein rich lunch and write.

Morning Muses will be shared twice a week: A brief reference to our walk, highlighting a special song of the morning with some interesting insights, and share a podcast, newsreel, or audiobook that peeked my curiosity either on my walk or when returning home.

Take care, my friend 👍.
